5 reasons to invest in people
There are 5 reasons to invest in people, and they are: the loss of skilled workers, declining interest among young people, the green and digital transition, the cost of employee turnover, and safety with fewer accidents.
Below we explain the reasons.
Reason 1: BY 2035 - 4 MILLION WORKERS
13 million people work in the EU construction sector. By 2035, 4 million will leave the sector, mostly due to retirement.
Reason 2: DECLINING INTEREST AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE
The share of under-30s in EU construction is falling - in some countries even below 10%. On the other hand, construction and related companies that invest in people find it easier to attract and retain the “next gen workforce”.
Reason 3: THE GREEN AND DIGITAL TRANSITION
New skills and knowledge are needed in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and digital tools.
Reason 4: THE COST OF EMPLOYEE TURNOVER
The minimum cost of replacing 1 worker is 15-20% of their annual salary. By reducing turnover from 20% to 15% in a company of 200 people, the minimum saving is €45,000-60,000 per year.
Reason 5: SAFETY AND FEWER ACCIDENTS
Every 5th fatal accident at work in the EU happens on a construction site. Managing people (training, coordination, safety culture) is just as important as technology or equipment.
By not investing in people, you create a cost, not a saving.
